Long Creek Fire Department

The Long Creek Volunteer Fire Department (LCVFD), established on January 9, 1952, is one of Mecklenburg County's oldest volunteer fire departments. Located at 6809 Beatties Ford Road in Charlotte, North Carolina, LCVFD was the eighth department in the state to receive its charter.
Early Development and Equipment
In its formative years, LCVFD showcased ingenuity by converting a Ford fuel tanker into a 2,200-gallon water tanker in 1955, enhancing its firefighting capabilities. This adaptation was crucial for rural fire protection at the time.
Community Service and Operations
Serving a 53.5-square-mile area, LCVFD provides fire protection and emergency services to the Long Creek Fire District. The department is staffed by dedicated volunteers who undergo regular training to ensure effective emergency response.
Notable Incidents
LCVFD has responded to various emergencies, including a significant truck fire on I-485 Inner in October 2023. The incident involved a fully engulfed vehicle with a leaking fuel tank, highlighting the department's readiness and collaboration with neighboring units like the Huntersville Fire Department.
Legacy and Community Engagement
Over the decades, LCVFD has maintained a strong community presence, emphasizing fire prevention education and public safety initiatives. Its commitment to service and adaptability has solidified its role as a vital component of Mecklenburg County's emergency response network.
